1. Academic expectations
Learn how classes are structured, how participation works, how office hours or academic help work, and what academic-integrity rules apply.
2. Daily systems
Plan basic routines: sleep, meals, transportation, budgeting, laundry, exercise, study location, and time-zone communication.
3. Support contacts
Save the location and contact process for academic advising, tutoring/learning support, disability/access services, health services, counseling, and emergency services.
4. Belonging plan
Choose realistic ways to meet people—classes, clubs, residence activities, study groups, volunteering, or cultural communities—without expecting instant closeness.
5. Family communication
Agree on communication frequency and how family should respond if the student is having a difficult week.
6. Escalation plan
Decide in advance what signs would prompt contact with licensed mental-health or medical professionals in the host location.
